CBD Oil for Pain: When and How

While hemp, more commonly known as CBD, is a compound in hemp, it’s not here to get you high! Coming in the form of flowers, capsules, or oil, CBD is one of the natural remedies very popular to fight sleep problems or anxiety. Several studies also confirm its effectiveness in relieving certain types of pain.

CBD for which types of pain?

To know how CBD oil works on pain, it is important to understand what pain is for.

Acute pain, a warning signal

All messages from our bodies are useful to us. Acute pain also has an important role. It corresponds to an alarm warning of a dysfunction of the body.

Receptors located on our skin and our organs, the nociceptors, are stimulated and send a message to the nervous system. Then, it is the brain’s turn to interpret this message.

Acute pain, such as that induced by a burn, for example, will provoke a reflex response allowing the hand to be removed from the surface that is too hot. If the pain has been present for more than three months, it becomes chronic. It then loses its primary function of alert and must be managed.

Indeed, on a daily basis, chronic pain alters the quality of life. In addition, it can cause sleep disorders, anxiety, and even depression.

The different types of pain

There are three different types of pain that can be experienced:

  • inflammatory such as joint pain ;
  • neuropathic pain such as sciatica and other back pain

Mixed pain, which combines the two above, such as pain following surgery.

Researchers from the famous McGill Institute in Montreal have shown that medical hemp effectively relieves chronic neuropathic pain and related anxiety by activating specific serotonin receptors(1).

How to relieve pain with CBD?

The medicinal solutions that are proposed against pain (paracetamol, aspirin, morphine, etc.) have side effects. This is not the case with CBD oil which calms the pain without side effects.

The different forms of CBD

CBD is consumed in different forms.

For muscular pain linked to a sporting effort, for example, do not hesitate to massage the painful zone with a CBD cream. Or better yet, massage with CBD oil from CBG Pain Relief. Thanks to its targeted application on the concerned area and its diffusion by the mucous membranes, you should feel an almost instantaneous relief.

As CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, it can be recommended to relieve joint pain such as rheumatism. A study published by the European Journal of Pain showed that it was possible to reduce pain and inflammation in rats with osteoarthritis by applying CBD in gel form(2).

For quick action, it is possible to consume CBD oil in sublingual form, i.e. by placing a few drops of oil directly under the tongue.

A personalized dosage

It is not possible to recommend a precise dosage of CBD to relieve pain. Indeed, several parameters must be taken into account.

We are all different: some of us will prove to be very sensitive to hemp while others will need higher doses. The pain itself will give an indication of what dose to take.

In any case, whether you have already consumed CBD oil for other issues such as anxiety relief for example, or you are new to the subject, we advise you to test with a low dose first.
